A hernia is an abnormal protrusion of abdominal contents through a defect or weak area in the abdominal wall. In cases of abdominal hernia, abdominal contents protrude through a weakened musculaponeurotic layer of the abdominal wall. A hernia consists of a ring (fascia), a sac (peritoneum), and the hernia contents. This study aimed to describe the incidence of postoperative urinary retention following spinal anesthesia in hernia surgery patients at Cilacap Regional General Hospital (RSUD Cilacap). This study employed a quantitative approach with an analytical method. The study population consisted of 73 patients; using a 5% margin of error, the calculated sample size was 62 respondents. An observation sheet was used to measure the incidence of postoperative urinary retention. The results showed that, regarding respondent characteristics, the majority were over 60 years of age (40 respondents; 64.5%) and male (57 respondents; 91.9%). In terms of education, the majority had a low level of education (elementary or junior high school) (37 respondents; 59.7%). Regarding the type of hernia, the majority of cases were inguinal hernias (56 respondents; 90.3%). Concerning the incidence of urinary retention, the majority of patients did not experience urinary retention (39 respondents; 62.9%).
